2013 MINI Cooper Release date, Price, Interior, Exterior, Engine. - Now, MINI is working on a whole new range of models, each based off a brand new front wheel drive platform being developed together with parent company BMW, which will use it for its own range of entry level hatchbacks due in the coming years.

Weve reported several times before on the new front wheel drive BMWs but these latest images reveal some never before seen details for the new MINI Cooper, which is expected to be revealed next year as a 2014 model. For 2013, Bluetooth is now standard on all Mini Coopers, while satellite radio is now an option instead of standard equipment. A USB/iPod adapter is now standard, and John Cooper Works models are now available with an automatic transmission.

The Mini also satisfies in more mundane ways, as even the most potent version offers very good fuel economy. Its petite dimensions make the 2013 Mini Cooper an ideal companion for drivers who frequently park on congested urban streets. And despite its small footprint, the car offers comfortable and spacious accommodations for two.

Interior :
The big eyed front end, the short nose, the low hood, and the classy wrap-around beltline, with blacked out pillars and a 'floating' roof, are all distinctive design elements that make this modern MINI a standout. Inside, the quirky, occasionally funky design is undeniably racy, and while its retro rocker switches feel somewhat at the expense of practicality (so might the somewhat gimmicky, plate size speedometer in the middle of the dash), and there's an element of busyness in the details, it's a cohesive look, and the color options introduced last year spruced it up.

The base Cooper comes standard with 15 inch alloy wheels, full power accessories, keyless entry, air conditioning, cruise control, a height adjustable driver seat, leatherette (vinyl) upholstery, floor mats, a tilt and telescoping leather wrapped steering wheel, multicolor ambient lighting, Bluetooth and a six speaker stereo with a CD player, HD radio, a USB/iPod adapter and an auxiliary audio jack. The Cooper convertible model adds 16-inch alloy wheels and a full power convertible top that includes a sunroof feature. The Cooper's Sport package adds 16 inch wheels on the hatchback and 17 inch wheels on the convertible, foglamps, traction control, a rear spoiler, sport seats and hood stripes.

Exterior :
MINI Coupe models (and the MINI Roadster) have essentially the same packaging from the front seats ahead, but with their lower roofline (MINI proudly calls the roof a 'helmet') there's less usable headroom, there's no rear seat in these models either just a small cargo shelf. MINI Clubman models, on the other hand, offer a bit more headroom in back, making a somewhat more spacious four seater, with a funky center opening, side hinged hatch arrangement.

Performance and Engine :
The 2013 Mini Cooper comes with a 1.6 liter four cylinder engine good for 121 horsepower and 114 pound feet of torque. A six speed manual with hill start assist is standard, and a six speed automatic is optional. Mini estimates a manual equipped hatchback will go from zero to 60 mph in 8.3 seconds (9.5 seconds with the automatic). EPA estimated fuel economy is 29 mpg city/37 mpg highway and 32 mpg combined with the manual (27/35/31 convertible) and 28/36/31 with the automatic.

Even the base versions of the MINI Cooper can be called 'zippy.' Even though their 1.6 liter four cylinder engine is only rated at 121 horsepower, but that's for just over 2,500 pounds for the manual car. Stick with the manual version, not the automatic, and it has satisfying pep and good gas mileage. But the Cooper S and its 181 hp turbocharged 1.6 liter four is the way to go for anyone who likes speed. You only drop about 2 mpg in having 60 more horses, with the manual transmission, and what you get in return is hot hatch verve.
